Tirzepatide is a synthetic 39-amino-acid peptide that acts as a dual agonist at the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors. A C20 fatty diacid is attached to a lysine side chain through a linker, which promotes albumin binding. It is identified by CAS 2023788-19-2.
Choose the size
The four vial sizes contain the same compound in different labelled amounts. Larger vials provide more material from a single lot; smaller vials suit pilot work.
Tirzepatide is a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist and should not be confused with single-receptor GLP-1 agonists such as semaglutide, or with triple agonists such as retatrutide, which are different molecules.
What the research establishes
Coskun and colleagues described the discovery of tirzepatide (then LY3298176). In cell lines expressing incretin receptors, it activated both GIP and GLP-1 receptor signalling. In mice, it produced glucose-dependent insulin secretion and improved glucose tolerance, with contributions from both receptors. The same paper reported early phase 1 studies.
Tirzepatide was subsequently evaluated in Eli Lilly’s SURPASS and SURMOUNT clinical trial programmes and is an approved medicine. Those findings concern the regulated medicinal product in defined clinical populations under trial conditions; they do not describe the performance of this research material, which is not a medicine.
Review the COA and product files
COA & Documentation contains the available batch reports and product documentation. Check the lot and strength, confirm identity by mass spectrometry against the expected molecular weight of the lipidated peptide, and note how purity was measured.
The strengths above describe labelled material, not a measured result for every lot. For handling and storage, consult the records that apply to your batch.
