Description
SS-31 10 mg and 50 mg
Buy SS-31 10 mg or 50 mg for laboratory research. Each vial contains SS-31 as lyophilized powder, in the labelled amount for the size selected.
- 10 mg: per vial
- 50 mg: per vial
SS-31, also known as elamipretide, is a synthetic mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide, D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2, in which Dmt is 2′,6′-dimethyltyrosine. It is identified by CAS 736992-21-5 (free base).
Choose the size
The 10 mg and 50 mg vials contain the same compound in different labelled amounts. The larger vial suits work that needs more material from a single lot; the smaller vial suits pilot work or smaller assays.
SS-31 is a single peptide and is not combined with other mitochondrial compounds such as MOTS-c. This product is supplied as the acetate salt; salt form affects the peptide content of a given weighed mass, so molar calculations should account for it.
What the research establishes
Birk and colleagues studied SS-31 in a rat model of renal ischaemia and in biophysical assays. Using a fluorescent analogue, they reported that SS-31 binds cardiolipin, a phospholipid of the inner mitochondrial membrane, and that the SS-31–cardiolipin interaction inhibited the peroxidase activity of cytochrome c. In rats given SS-31 before ischaemia, mitochondrial cristae were preserved, mitochondrial swelling was prevented and ATP recovered faster on reperfusion.
Elamipretide has since been developed as a medicine by Stealth BioTherapeutics. These findings concern SS-31 in animal and in vitro models under those conditions, not the performance of this product.
Review the COA and product files
COA & Documentation contains the available batch reports and product documentation. Check the lot and strength, confirm identity by mass spectrometry against the expected molecular weight, note the salt form, and check how purity was measured.
The strengths above describe labelled material, not a measured result for every lot. For handling and storage, consult the records that apply to your batch.
