- 10 mg: per vial
Melanotan II is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-NH2, in which a lactam bridge links the aspartic acid and lysine side chains. It is identified by CAS 121062-08-6.
Choose the size
Melanotan II is offered in a single 10 mg strength.
It should not be confused with PT-141 (bremelanotide), which is listed separately. The two share the same cyclic ring sequence, but Melanotan II carries a C-terminal amide while bremelanotide has a C-terminal free acid, so they are distinct molecules with different identifiers. Melanotan II is also unrelated in structure to the linear peptide afamelanotide (sometimes called Melanotan I).
What the research establishes
Al-Obeidi and colleagues, working with Hadley and Hruby at the University of Arizona, designed a series of cyclic lactam analogues of α-MSH fragments, including the Asp–Lys bridged structure later known as Melanotan II. In frog and lizard skin melanocyte bioassays, analogues with a 23-membered ring were far more potent than α-MSH in the lizard assay and showed prolonged activity, while changing the ring size reduced potency.
These findings concern receptor activity in isolated skin bioassays under those experimental conditions, not the performance of this product.
Review the COA and product files
The COA & Documentation page contains the available batch reports and product documentation. Check the lot number and strength, that the identity confirmed is Melanotan II (C-terminal amide) rather than bremelanotide, the method used to confirm identity (such as mass spectrometry) and the purity method (such as HPLC).
The strength above describes labeled material, not a measured result for every lot. For handling and storage, consult the records applicable to your specific lot.
