IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-I) is an 83-amino-acid analogue of human insulin-like growth factor I. It carries a 13-residue N-terminal extension and an arginine in place of glutamic acid at position 3, changes that greatly reduce binding to IGF-binding proteins. It is identified by CAS 143045-27-6.
Choose the size
IGF-1 LR3 is offered as a single 1 mg vial. Because it is a recombinant protein-scale molecule of about 9.1 kDa, quantities used in cell-culture and in vitro work are typically far smaller than for short peptides, and 1 mg is the standard research unit.
IGF-1 LR3 is not the same as native IGF-1 or other IGF analogues. Its altered binding-protein interaction means results obtained with one cannot be assumed for the other.
What the research establishes
Conlon and colleagues infused guinea pigs for seven days with IGF-I, IGF-II or Long R3 IGF-I. Long R3 IGF-I increased the weights of several organs, including the gut, kidney, adrenal glands and spleen, but did not improve overall body weight gain or carcass composition, and it lowered circulating IGF-I, IGF-II and IGF-binding protein concentrations.
These findings concern a specific animal model under those experimental conditions. They do not describe the properties or performance of this product. IGF-1 LR3 is also widely used as a defined supplement in mammalian cell culture media.
